Baltic Exchange issues BDI value on daily basis. On 04 Jan 2018, the Baltic Dry Index (BDI) was up 79 points (+5.89%) to a level of 1341.00 as compared to the level (1262.00) on 03 Jan 2018.
Basically Baltic indices tracks the costing of moving materials via sea. The 3 major indices includes - Baltic Dry Index (BDI) which tracks the freight rates of bulk commodities and provides the assessment of the price of moving raw materials like coal/iron by sea, Baltic Tanker Dirty Index (BDIY) which tracks rates for crude oil and the Baltic Tanker Clean Index (BCIY) for tracking of petroleum products.
Founded in 1744, Baltic Exchange is a membership organisation for the maritime industry based in London. This is the Exchange responsible for handling the trading and settlement of both physical contracts and derivatives relating to shipping and maritime transportation. Baltic exchange publishes information such as Baltic Dry Index (BDI), Baltic Tanker Clean Index (BCIY), Baltic Tanker Dirty Index (BDIY) during working days of Asian and European markets.
